I have been doing a lot of Tweeting over the Christmas break – you can follow our Tweets on http://twitter.com/uowho – and have been pleasantly surprised by the number of people and organizations who are promoting and talking about random acts of kindness and how important they are. Just perform a search on Twitter using the terms “kindness” or follow some of the hashtags like #kindness or #RAOK (random acts of kindness) and you will see what I mean! It is very heartening and encouraging – 2010 looks to see many efforts in this direction, which can only benefit us all.
One particular initiative I wanted to draw your attention to is Yahoo’s “You in?” – where they encourage people to share their good-deed stories with others. Their concept, much like ours, is to inspire people with stories of individual acts of kindness to create a ‘ripple’ effect as others are encouraged to do the same. On the You in? site, each act of kindness is represented by a purple heart on a localized map, each of which will lead to the individual story when you click on it. It is nicely done, I have to say.
Now, we always try to encourage our bracelet wearers to tell us their stories of kindness, whether it be as the giver or to tell us how you received your bracelet. Such stories always help to inspire others to do something for someone else, which is what we are trying to do. If, as one of of our UOWHO ‘kindness’ bracelet wearers, you wanted to tell your act of kindness through Yahoo’s “You in?” site we would be more than happy for you to do so. It is all about spreading the love! Happy New Year and RAOK On!
A multi-color 8-pack of UOWHO ‘kindness’ bracelets is available from our online store for only $8!
