We are still getting some feedback from some people who had not realized what “UOWHO” actually stands for. Deb from Illinois wrote to us and has kindly given her permission to let us publish part of her email exchange with Lloyd by way of illustration -
What an amazing story!!!!!!
Do mind if I share it with my congregation?
They would LOVE to hear the story and man behind the UOWHO bracelet!!!
I kept staring at the 5 letters trying to figure out an acronym that I could use with my congregation.
Now I see so plainly the U-O – Who!
My acronym ended up being (don’t laugh) Unify – Our – World – Hearts – Open
Thank you for your work and touching sooo many lives.
I am a teacher so if I can be of any assistance in whatever sense,
please feel free to ask.
God Bless
Deb
Actually, we quite liked “Unify – Our – World – Hearts – Open” as an acronym for UOWHO. Unfortunately, it’s real meaning is nothing quite as grand. When Lloyd came up with the name he wanted something short, memorable and that captured the ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ concept – hence “UOWHO” – literally U-O-WHO, as in ‘You Owe Who’? as in ‘Who do you owe? as in Who was the person that performed an act of kindness for you – the act that you are reminded to pay forward by wearing the bracelet. And we certainly believe the UOWHO name fulfills the brief when you think about it. And I hope that clears things up if for those of you who were wondering.
Not that we mind you coming up with alternative acronyms for UOWHO – if you have any inspired (and clean!) alternatives of your own we would be delighted to read them and share them with our readers!
